Brought Babylonian ideas to China. Chou had a different theory of government involving Heaven granting the right to rule on earth to a family. |

Lived from 551 to 479 B.C.E. Native of the state of Lu, born into a noble family. Tried to persuade the prince to follow his teachings but he wouldn't so he dropped from office. People began to follow him and write what he said in the Analects. Five Classics were credited to him. Believed that a really good man could only exercise virtue to the full by ruling or by serving as minister to one who rules. Claimed no originality. If everyone knew his or her place, all would be well...decorum. |
