Changes that Hannibal brought to Italy? |
|
Definition
Hannibal's soldiers lived off the country. Small farmers in Italy were called to the serve in Roman army. The land became desolate and veterans didn't want to become farmers again after coming back from war, so they would loiter in the city to see what work might come up. This was more attractive because the prospect of booty from new campaigns was better than farming. This also meant Roman citizens wanted war in distant lands where there was rich booty. |
