Britain and France, practiced a policy of appeasement which means they went along with Hitler's actions at the beginning in order to avoid starting a war. Before they could try to stop it, Germany;s military and government had become too powerful to overthrow and it became a war. The terms of the Treaty of Versailles were so harsh towards Germany, people were in desperate need of change and they ended up being violated. |

Definition
Boycotts began when the Jews were segregated from the Germans, who considered themselves Aryan, the master race. They began to be banned from public facilities and services and were shunned and deprived of what was once available to them, for example, they only had certain options for education, shopping, etc. The Nuremberg Race Laws came into play when these restrictions were made official and The Nazis' definition of a Jew was determined. It was no longer seen as a belief, it was anyone with Jewish family members. Kristallnacht occurred in 1938. Gassing and camps came into play, Jews no longer belonged and wore the badge and propaganda was made to reject them. In 1941 Operation Barbarossa occurred and then the Final Solution was put into action. |

This policy was stated in the Truman Doctrine, which provided support to Greece and Turkey against communism in strengthening their economies. George Marshall proposed the Marshall Plan to help rebuild economy and industry of Western Europe. Now that the nations were rebuilt, they were faced with less threat of communism during the Cold War, containment was successful. |
