June 2nd, 1967: Moshe Dayan, a war hero and Minister of Agriculture, was appointed to the position of Israeli Minister of Defense by the Prime minister, Levi Eshkol. During the Six Day War, he personally oversaw the capture of East Jerusalem. He had a trademark eye-patch which he wore everywhere due to an incident in February of 1941, where glass from binoculars went into his eye, blinding it beyond repair. He was born on May 20th, 1915, and died October 16th, 1981.

June 7th, 1967: Israel takes over the holy city of Jerusalem in Jordan. At 9 a.m., Israeli forces stormed the city, and by 10 a.m. the entire city had been overcome by the force of the Israeli military. This was a huge win for Israel, because Jerusalem has been considered the Holy Land for many centuries, especially to the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian religions. In taking the city away from the Muslims, the Jewish community was in a way showing their superiority and dominance over the culture.
