• Approach jump-3 step approach ( hit, non hit, hit, then step close with non hitting foot and almost simultaneously landing) , arms complete big backswing so that palms go up behind the body. Heel plant to prevent forward drift. Bring both arms forward and up, lead arm stays up and points at the ball, hitting arm pulls back. Approach net at 45 degrees. Non hitting side closest to the net. • Striking action-shoulders rotate first with hitting arm lagging, upper arm rotates with forearm still lagging, forearm rotates, non hitting shoulder drops, full extension of the arm, body slightly bent at waist, snap wrist. Keep ball ahead of hitting shoulder. • Jump-quick flexion and extension using legs and ankles. • Follow through (arm swings forward and down), landing (Legs absorb landing). • Wait and be great. • Tipping-do not break the wrist • Timing: 15’s when the ball is at the peak of trajectory. |

See the back of your hands. • Movement: shuffle step and crossover step (shoulders always face net) • Arm motion: as soon as hands cross net they begin to penetrate into the court., vertical extension, press forward from shoulders not down • Hand position: thumbs up, fingers wide, hands hard • Footwork: shuffle for short distances vs crossover for longer distances. Take a big first step in the direction of travel. Heel plant. • Jumping-quick down and up rather than waiting in down position. Load the muscles for spring. • Positioning on ball / hitter: where ball will cross net, not where attacker is. Think hitter paints a strip with the brush down the middle of the blocker. |
