Posterior Cricoarytenoids PCA |
|
Definition
Large abductor muscle. originates @ middle depression to posterior surface of cricoid and inserts in the muscular process of the arytenoids. Innervated by the recurrent laryngeal nerve. Function: ABDUCT the VF by rotating laterally the vocal process of the arytenoid. |

Term
Lateral Cricoarytenoids LCA |
|
Definition
Function: direct antagonist to the posterior cricoarytenoid. ADDUCTOR muscle. Originates from the upper border of the arch of the cricoid cartilage and inserts into the musclular process of the aryteniod on the same side. Innervated by recurrent laryngeal nerve. When the LCA contracts, it rotates the muscular process forward and at the same time causes the vocal process of the arytenoid to toe in at midline, enhancing the ADDUCTION |

Originate from the lateral margin and posterior surface of one arytenoid and inserts on the same site on the opposite arytenoid. Not paired-transverse the distance between the 2 arytenoids. Innervated by the RLN. Function: ADDUCTOR |

Definition
Originates from the muscular process of one arytenoid across to the apex of the opposite cartilage. Innervated by RLN. ADDUCTION: bring the VF closer together by approx of the apex of each arytenoid cartilage. |

Definition
Form the bulk of the muscular portion of VF. Originate on the inner surface of the thyroid cartilage, near the thyroid notch and extend posteriorly to the vocal process of the artytenoid. innervated by RLN. Contraction of vocalis draws crico + thyroid further apart tensing the VFs. Contracting of muscles move the arytenoids forward and Adduct the VFs. |

Controls pitch. Muscles main up of 2 parts: Pars oblique & pars recta. Originate from the anterior-lateral arch of the cricoid cartilage and end in 2 different insertions. The long fibers (oblique) insert near the lower horn of the thyroid, the more superior fibers (recta) course to the lower margin of the lateral thyroid cartilage wall. Innervated by the lower SUPERIOR LARYNGEAL NERVE. When they contract they increase the distance between the thyroid and arytenoid cartilages. |
