Definition
8 local anarchists were charged with murder (someone threw a bomb). 7 german immigrants and one american. They went after them bc they gave the speeches at the Haymarket rally, but there was no evidence of who threw the bomb or made it. 7 were sentenced to death and on sentenced to prison. In the end, one person takes his life, 4 are hanged, 3 are comueted(?)

The Haymarket rally was going well and there was no violence. Carter Harrison visits and was convinced there wouldnt be any trouble. Tells cops that everything is going well. Cops go to the rally and tell everyone to leave but they can't do that because it is peaceful. Someone throws a bomb and 7 police were killed.

The car used ice and brine packed into the roof of a specially designed car to cool its contents, vents pushed incomign air around the ice and the chilled air dropped to the car's floor

He was a ruthless, multimillionaire who was the subject of Theodore Dreiser's novel, The Titian. he gained control of several of the city's streetcar companies. he imporved service in the North and West side and built the downtown Union Loop( the elevated streetcars). However, many people detested him for his dishonesty and shady dealings. He was blamed for a lot.

During his administrations, Chicago's vice districts blossomed. One of his biggest enemies was Charles Yerkes. During his final term in office, he established the Chicago Vice Commission and worked to close down the Levee district, starting with the Everleigh Club

Daley was the host mayor of this convention. Mayor demonstrated that he wouldnt tolerate civil unrest. Many anti-Vietnam War protesters assembled at Grant Park and marched to the convention site. They began taunting the police and the policemen exploded into the group of protesters. Police beated them eventhough some tried to surrender. Many people critized Daley for this.
