Definition
God sovereignly maintains in existence all things that he has made; different than creation

Methods of God's preservation
Definition
1. Deistic Theory- he created the world with natural law and now the universe is self sustaining and God is a spectator
2. Continuous Creation Theory- God creates the universe on a moment to moment basis; there is a problem here with free will
3. Theory of Concurrence- God created the world and his will and natural law govern it together; Biblical approach; preserves free will but also accounts for God's will

Definition
The continuous activity of God whereby he makes all the events of the physical, mental, and moral realms work out his purpose

Seven Views of the Person of Christ
Definition
1. Ebionites- Jesus so fulfilled Mosaic Law that God chose him to be Messiah; deity and virgin birth denied
2. Gnostics- Dualism; God could not have had flesh because flesh is evil, so Jesus was just a spirit
3. Arians- Christ was a created being; he was the first-born of creation; Christ was not fully man or God at the incarnation
4. Apollinarians- Jesus had a true body and animal soul, but not a rational spirit or mind; Logos took the place of human intelligence; took away from humanity of Christ
5. Nestorians- Twofold personality; Christ had separate human and divine natures; this endangered the true deity of Christ
6. Eutychians- only one nature in Christ; all of Christ was divine, even his body; takes away from humaity of Christ
7. Orthodox View- One Jesus, two natures, fully human and fully God

Definition
Logos is part of God in that it is an aspect of Christ. Christ is the Word but not only the Word; Christ also created with God and sustains with God; Christ and Logos are not equal, Logos is part of Christ

1. Human Birth- born of Mary but still sinless
2. Had Human Development- physical and mental dispositions developed as he grew older
3. Had Essential Elements of Human Nature- had a human body, rationality, voluntariness, will, reason, and emotion

5. Had the Sinless Infirmities of Human Nature- he became weary, hungry, thirsty, sleepy, tempted, and was dependent upon the Father for strength

Definition
1. He has the attributes of deity- eternal, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, and immutable

3. He has the prerogatives of deity- forgave sins, raised people from the dead, the resurrection
4. He is identified with OT Jehovah- creator, seen by Isaiah, preceded by a forerunner, disciplines his people, regarded as holy, holds captivity captive, and is an object of faith
