Death in Markus Zusak's 'The Book Thief' |

Analysis: In the novel The Book Thief, death is portrayed not as an idea, but a character in itself. Mark Zusak chooses death to narate the story of several lives connected to and including Leisel Meminger. As we read, he tends to foreshadow incidents and deaths, to avoid reflecting in them. He shows his emotions through sympathy and sarcasm throughout the book. The opinions he shows on humanity and the emotions and actions we take include fascination and misunderstanding. |
