What was The Compromise of 1850?
Definition
This compromise settled the dispute regarding the boundaries of Texas.
Legislation was put in place that permanently changed the boundaries of Texas. Texas agreed to surrender its claims to portions of “disputed” land – in return, the US agreed to give Texas $10 million to settle its debts.
