Definition
- Irony: the intentional use of contradiction to emphasize or make light of something by saying or doing the opposite of what one intends.
- can be the most difficult to detect.
- Contradiction: Either of two propositions related in such way that it is impossible for both to be true or both to be false.
- simple contradictions:( ones that aren't ironic or paradoxical) are not intentional. They are mistakes and may be difficult to spot.
- Contradiction in terms: occurs when an author defines a term in one way and then uses it in another, usually opposite way.
- ie: authoritarian parents are non-loving then say that they are like that because they love their kids.
- Paradox: distinguished from a simple contadiction and an ironic statement by the fact taht its seemingly contradictory but my nonetheless be true.
- ex: do without doing- look for car keys and can't find them. u give up and u find them. "I am lying" - if the statement is true, then it's false

- reading for ambiguity is about looking for where the author has opened the door to possibility.
