Modules are specific mechanimsms within the mind that work independently to solve needs

 

Ex: women with higher pitched voices sounds sexy because they have high estrogen levels, unconscious brain picks up on that

Definition
  1. Cross cultural approach: learning about cultural influences on the mind by examining cultural differences
  2. Learning by examining cultural change within a culture

Where does collectivism come from? What are some characteristics of collectivism? What countries seems to have a collectivism sort of culture?

  • There is correlation between collectivism and the amount of infection present within a culture
  • Collectivist cultures have less tolerance for out-groupe members and deviance
  • Eastern Asia, many parts of Africa and some parts of South America.

What is the ecological approach?
Definition
This combines evolutionary and cultural. Natural selection favors animals that adapt to their current surroundings/culture in specific ways at the time being. This is in a shorter time frame than natural selection.

Definition
The Face-Space is the average of all the faces you see on a regular basis as the current point of time in your life. This can change as you move, go to different schools, and experience different things in life.

Definition
We tend to find the most common and average faces from out Face-Space the most attractive

How can what we think of a face change how we feel about a person?
Definition
People who have similar faces and show a resemblance tend to induce more trust in the person who is viewing them. However, people that are different and don't resemble the person tend to be seen as more attractive.

What is imprinting and who did the first studies on it?
Definition
Lorenz. He imprinted a group of baby geese to himself and a duckling to a puppy. These animals tend to trust and stick around with the first large organism that the see in their life.
