Indication:Management of acne vulgaris.

Contraindication: Hypersensitivity and alcohol intolerance.

Route/Dsg: Apply once daily at bedtime.

Adv. Effects: photosensitivity, redness, blistering, edema, crusting, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation

Special Tch: Application may cause a transient feeling of warmth and a slight stinging. Avoid application near eyes, mouth, angle of the nose, and mucous membranes. Do not apply excessive amounts, because this may cause redness, peeling, or discomfort and will not improve results

Term

Indication:Treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in HIV-infected patients (alone or with ganciclovir).Treatment of acyclovir-resistant mucocutaneous herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections in immunocompromised patients.

Contraindication: Hypersensitivity

Route/Dsg: IV: (Adults) CMV retinitis– 60 mg/kg q 8 hr or 90 mg/kg q 12 hr for 2–3 wk, then 90–120 mg/kg/day as a single dose. Dose required for any degree of renal impairment; HSV– 40 mg/kg q 8–12 hr for 2–3 wk or until healing occurs.

Adv. Effects: seizures, headaches, anxiety, confusion, dizziness, conjunctivitis, edema, palpitations, renal failure, dysuria, nocturia, hypocalcemia, diaphoresis, hypokalemia, hypomagnsium, pain at injection site, back pain, myalgia, tremor, chills, flu symptoms.

Special Tch: monitor renal function. This is not a cure for cmv retinitis.

Indication: Tx of fungal infections of the skin, including candidiasis, tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis and tinea versicolor. AKA jock itch, athletes foot, ringworm and yeast.

Contraindication: Hypersensitivity and intolerance to alcohol.

Route/Dsg: Apply cream, ointment, or powder 2–3 times daily until healing is complete.

Adv. Effects: burning, itching, local hypersensitivity reactions, redness, stinging

Special Tch: Caution patient that some products may stain fabric, skin, or hair.Patients with athlete's foot should be taught to wear well-fitting, ventilated shoes, to wash affected areas thoroughly, and to change shoes and socks at least once a day.

Term

Indication: Tx of fungal infections of the skin, including candidiasis, tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis and tinea versicolor. AKA jock itch, athletes foot, ringworm and yeast

Contraindication: Hypersensitivity

Route/Dsg: pply cream once daily for cutaneous candidiasis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedia, and tinea versicolor. Apply cream twice daily for seborrheic dermatitis. Patients with cutaneous candidiasis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, and tinea versicolor should be treated for 2 wk. Patients with tinea pedis should be treated for 6 wk. Patients with seborrheic dermatitis should be treated for 4 wk (2 wk with gel). For dandruff, use shampoo twice weekly (wait 3–4 days between treatments) for 4 wk, then intermittently.

Special Tch: Inspect involved areas of skin and mucous membranes before and frequently

Indication: septicemia, skin infections, resp. tract infections, osteomyelitis, endocarditis prophylaxis, gynecological infections, intra abdominal infections.

Contraindication: ulcerative colitis, pseudomembranous colitis, diarrhea, hepatic failure

Route/Dsg: Most infections– 150–450 mg q 6 hr, children 10-30 mg/kg/day

Adv. Effects:dizziness, headache, arrhythmias, vertigo, hypotension, diarrhea, rash, phlebitis

Special Tch:Do not confuse Clindesse with Clindets. Administer with full glass of water.
