Red like a sun burn, no blisters.

Definition
Superfical: Full thickness burn, with loss of sensation and loss of color or circulation.  May appear pale or chard with no feeling in the affected skin.
Deep:
Same as the superficial but the deeper tissue is affected and the person may need a skin graft.  How deep a burn is may not be determined for a few days. (Scalding water, oil, fire, etc.)

Prevent Infection
Definition
Clean the area throughly with saline or soap and water. Apply antibiotic cream or ointment and a nonadhesive dressing. Consider antibiotic in a large burn or a dirty burn. Keflex 500 mg 4 times a day for 5-7 days

Extensive burns may cause dehydration. IV fluids or just hydrating solution by mouth. To prevent shock.

Definition
A baterial infection of the skin and soft tissue. It appears red, hot painful.
Medication: Keflex 500mg 4x/day for 10 days, elevation and rest

Impetigo
Definition
A bacterial infection usually on the face causing a red rash with a homey colored crust to form.
Medication: Keflex 500 mg 4x/days for 10 days and Bactroban antibiotic ointment. The wound should be cleaned with soap and water at least 1 time a day.

Abscesses
Definition
Soft tissue bacterial infections that creates a pocket of pus forming a red hot painful swollen area anywhere on the body often at the site of a bite, puncture wound, or sweat gland.  Tx – Incision and drainage.  The area is prepared with betadine solution, then injected with Lidocaine, then an incision is made and the pus is expressed. Packing of sterile gauze is then placed inside the wound to prevent a reclosure of the wound.  The packing must be changed daily until the drainage has stopped.  Dressings must be change regul arly and heat can be applied to the wound to increase circulation.
