Definition
- When walking up to a horse you should always talk to the horse
- You should walk up to the horse from the side so the horse can see you
- Once you are close to the horse you can touch the horse on the neck or on the shoulder

going to lead

Definition
- Before you lead a horse make sure the lead rope is hooked to the halter
- Once the lead rope is hooked make sure that you do not wrap the lead rope tightly around your hand
- Leave it loosely just in case the horse gets scared
- Always make sure there is at least the length from your elbow to your wrist away

- Make sure you stay to the side of the horse so it can see you
- If you have to change sides DO NOT GO UNDER THE LEAD or BEHIND THE HORSE
- If you do go behind the horse make sure to stay close enough that if the horse kicks it doesnt have much power
- If you go around the front of the horse go far enough in front that the horse can see you
- Horses have blind spots and it will be show you on the next card

- After exercising your horse and ready to put the horse back out to pasture or in the horses stall
- Always make sure you walk the horse out turn the horse around and then take the horses halter off
- If you are putting the horse back in the stall do the same thing but only have the stall door open enough for you to slip out and then take off the halter

Definition
- Never go out into the pasture with a lot of horses and give treats you could get hurt
- Also do not pack treat in your pockets when there are lots of horses around they could bite you trying to get to the treats
- Only give treats when you are training a horse or after a trail ride to show the horse he did a good job
