When walking up to a horse

or

catching a horse

• When walking up to a horse you should always talk to the horse.
• You should walk up to the horse from the side so the horse can see you.
  
• Once you are close to the horse you can touch the horse on the neck or the shoulder
  

When you 

are

going to lead

a

Horse

• Before leading a horse make sure the lead rope is hooked to the halter
• Once the lead rope is hooked do not wrap the lead rope tightly around your hand.
  
• Leave it lose
• Once you are ready to walk make sure to keep the horse at your side or behind you.
• NEVER IN FRONT!!!!!
  

When

Grooming

a

Horse

• You should stand at the side of the horse
• NEVER BEHIND OR IN FRONT OF THE HORSE
• If behind the horse, it cannot see you
• If you are in front of the horses nose it cannot see you
• If you need to walk behind the horse walk close enough so if the horse would kick it would not have as much power
