Everything Shut down except RAM and enough of the motherboard to respond to a wake-up call (such as pressing a key on the keyboard or moving the mouse. Some call this sleep mode, suspend mode, standby mode or suspend to RAM. |

Everything in RAM is copied to the hard drive and then the system shuts down. Called Hibernation. Later, when power button is pressed, system can quickly restart by reading the hibernation file to the state it was in exactly before the system shut down. |
