Definition
An early Greek civilization to thrived on the Polis. A tightly woven community where all of the males at the age of reason were actively involved in the army/navy of the country. Main fighting force that they used and manipulated was the phalanx (a square formation that proved to be an impenetrable defense and unstoppable offense)

Definition
An epic poem written by Homer, that chronologically comes before The Odyssey. It is the tale of the siege of Troy that became an early philosophical basis for the Greek community and altered the way that they viewed the Gods.

Definition
The collection of sayings and ideas attributed to the Chinese philosopher Confucius and his contemporaries. They have been believed to have been written by Confucius' followers during the time of the Period of the Warring States

Definition
Arose because not everyone was willing to settle for a life divided between ordinary activity and ascetic withdrawal.
They wished to escape the unsatisfactory conditions of life.
Budda's rules only applied to religious devotees (monks).
Buddhists in India were honored for holiness or feared for their magical powers, but still was treated like any other caste.
"Budda" = Enlightened One
