Definition
how a cause of this revolution???: (AKA Bloody Sunday) The peasants were outside the palace, chanting to Czar Nicholas of how they were hungry and they wanted food. They called him “Father Czar” because they loved him and such. The nobles forced the Czar to open fire on the unarmed peasants when all they wanted was food, and this went and changed their feelings for “Father Czar”, they now hated him.

Peasants unhappy because they are starving. The government in weak and corrupt, the tax money is being spent lavishly instead of trying to help the peasants.

Russians were losing, the men were forced into draft (conscription), the war cost money that the Russians didn’t have, they didn’t have any weapons (1 gun to every 3 men), Czar Nicholas was at the front, so there wasn’t really anyone in charge. The people didn’t even understand the war, so they were more apt to revolt against it.

Lenin: He was kicked out of Russia because he was preaching of an overthrow of the Czar and government, replacing it with communism. The Germans hear about this and they send him back to Russia with some money and weapons to overthrow the Russian government and hopefully knock Russia out of the war. They ran from the palace to their summer palace, then they were moved to various areas and forced to live like the common people. They had to dress simply and their luxuries were taken from them. They were taken down into the basement and were taking a “picture” when the soldiers came in and executed the family. It was a blood bath, the girls were told to stitch in their jewelry into their clothes so that they couldn’t be taken from them, the jewelry acted as a bullet-proof vest. The soldiers were forced to run them through with the bayonets to finally kill them.

 was the only legal, ruling political party in the Soviet Union and one of the largest communist organizations in the world. Communism was first led by Lenin in Russia, and it was surprising, because when the idea of communism first arose, it was predicted that the working class would start it, not the peasants.

AKA Bolshevik Revolution. It happened in 1917, this is when the Bolsheviks overthrew the provisional government that was led by Lenin, and gave power to the local soviets dominated by the Bolsheviks.

He was an “elected leader” of the provisional government. He comes to power when the czar abdicates the throne. His mistake is that he wants Russia to stay in the war because he is thinking of the long term issues that Russia will have if they drop out (no one will take them seriously, sissy Russia, etc).

 Lenin’s policy for the economy. He wants a capitalist economy where the peasants can own land and whatever extra crops they make, they can sell to make an extra profit (motivation). He wants to increase the production levels, and for the government to control the RR, banks, and factories.

Definition
German-Russian treaty that was signed so that Russia drops out of the war. Russia loses Poland, Finland, and the Baltic States to Germany.
