a stage whereby somatic analgesia is combined with a
light plane of unconsciousness, but the animal seems to be dissociated from its
environment.
During dissociative anesthesia, the animal maintains its pharyngeal, laryngeal,
corneal, palpebral, and swallowing reflexes. The eyes also remain open.
