Term
Terminology is confusing with screening. Done with those who have a known disease. Place into groups requiring different levels of monitoring. Based upon specific criteria
Definition
Risk Stratification
Term
Name 3 screening results
Definition
Apparently healthy
Increased risk
Known disease
Term
Name 4 things that quality under "apparently healthy"
Definition
Asymptomatic
Apparently healthy
No more than 1 major risk factor
Suitable for moderate exercise intensity
Term
Name 4 things that qualify under "increased risk"
Definition
1 S&S of possible dz
2 and/or 2 or more risk factors
3 Need to be cleared by a DR
4 May require a graded exercise test
Term
What are 2 things that qualify under "known disease"
Definition
- Need to be in a formal cardiac rehab program
- Almost always have a GXT done
Term
What is a GXT?
Definition
Graded exercise test (same as a stress test)
Term
Name 3 types of people who qualify under "low risk"
Definition
Young individuals
Asymptomatic
No more than 1 risk factor
Term
Name 2 types of people who qualify under "moderate risk"
Definition
Asymptomatic men and women
Meet 2 or more risk factors
Term
Name 2 types of people who qualify as "high risk"
Definition
Meet 1 or more risk factors
Have known: CV dz, pulmonary dz, or metabolic dz (90% of time means diabetes when referring to metabolic dz)
Term
Recommendations for medical exam prior to moderate exercise
Definition
low risk: no
moderate risk: no
high risk: yes
Term
Recommendations for medical examination prior to vigorous exercise
Definition
low risk: no
moderate and high risk: yes
Term
Recommendations for submaximal test
Definition
-Have some criterion such as 80-90% of MHR
- low and moderate risk: no
- high risk: yes
Term
Recommendations for Maximal Tests
Definition
-Person exercises until they can't exercise anymore
-Low risk: no
-Moderate and high risk: recommended
Term
AACVPR Risk Stratification Criteria for Cardiac Pts
Definition
Low Risk: ALL descriptions are present
Moderate and High Risk: ANY descriptions are present
Term
If you are low risk, you must meet ALL criteria. Name the 8 criteria
Definition
1. No significant LV dysfunction (EF is greater than 50%
2. No resulting or exercised induced complex arrhythmias
3. Uncomplicated MI, CABG, angioplasty, stent
4. Absence of CHF or signs of ischemia (ankles swelling or jugulars bulging)
5. Normal hemodynamics with exercise
6. Asymptomatic (absence of angina)
7. Functional capacity greater than 7 METs
8. Absence of clinical depression
Term
If you are moderate risk, you must meet ANY criteria. Name the 4 criteria
Definition
1. Moderately impaired LV function (EF 40-49%
2. Angina with mod exercise (3-6 METs)
3. Functional capactity of less than 5 METs
4. Mild to moderate level of ischemia during exercise testing or recovery
Term
If you are high risk, you must meet ANY criteria. Name the 7 criteria
Definition
1. Decreased LV function (EF less than 40%)
2. Survivor of cardiac arrest or sudden death
3. Complex ventricular arrhythmias during rest and/or exercise
4. MI or cardiac surgery complicated by cardiogenic shock, CHF, or post even ischemia
5. Abnormal hemodynamics with exercise
6. Angina pectoris with low exercise
7. Clinical depression
Term
What is Class A under AHA Risk Stratification Criteria
Definition
Apparently Healthy Individuals
Term
What is Class B under AHA Risk Stratification Criteria
Definition
Presence of Known, Stable CV Dz with low risk for complications with vigorous exercise, but slightly greater than for apparently healthy individuals
Term
What is Class C under AHA Risk Stratification Criteria
Definition
Those at moderate to high risk for cardiac complications during exercise and/or unable to self-regulate activity or understand recommended activity level
Term
What is Class D under AHA Risk Stratification Criteria
Definition
Unstable dz with activity restriction
