4. Britain and USSR enter, Eastern and Western Fronts 1941, 1942 |
|
Definition
Both the Western front and the Eastern front were powerful forces and were not to be reckoned with. The Western front was composed of Denmark, Norway, Luxemburg, Belgium, Netherlands, United Kingdom, France, and Western Germany (later in the war the US entered). One of the biggest tactics of the Western front was the battle at the beach of Normandy, referred to as D-Day.
The Western front was in conflict with the Eastern Front, also referred to as the Axis power. If the Allies were a team then the Axis was composed of Nazi Germany, Romania, Hungary, Italy (until 1943), Bulgaria, and Finland (until 1944). Not only were many of these nations puppet states of Germany and lived under Germany occupation, but also many of these nations dropped out of the Axis powers before the war was even over. The big two powers of the Axis were Germany and the Soviet Union. |
