Mood stabilizer, inhibitor of the enzyme inositol monophosphate. Least effective for rapid cycling/mixed episodes. Side effects: GI problems, sedation. Narrow therapeutic window; must monitor blood levels.

Mood stabilizer.  Frequently used as 1st line treatment for bipolar disorders (like lithium). Good for rapid cycling/mixed episodes, Side Effects: can cause birth defects, not for pregnant women, nursing, or who may become pregnant.
