- refers to patients who usually only have depressive episodes or rarely only manic episodes

- episodes can also be recurrent

BiPolar

- differs from depression in that it is chronic, rather than episodic, low level depression.

- to recieve this dx the pt must have had a depressed mood and at least 3 symptoms for most of the day nearly every day for at least 2 years (1 for children and adolecents)

-poor appetite

-poor concentration or difficulty thinking

feelings of hopelessness
