Definition
• Typically transmitted through vaginal and anal sex
• Symptoms:
- Men: 50% asymptomatic; clear, thin discharge and mild discomfort
- Women: 70% asymptomatic; ab pain, abnormal discharge, bleeding, low-grade fever, urge to urinate more than usual, bleeding after sex

Definition
• Vaginal and anal sex, also mouth, throat, eyes
• Very contagious
• Symptoms:
- Men: within few days start as clear, thin discharge and mild discomfort --> pussy yellow/green discharge
- Women: invades cervix but can spread to urethra, anus, and rectum --> often no symptoms during early stage; also pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)

• most contagious during an outbreak, less when dormant
• condom use reduces risk by 50%
• Symptoms:
- small redish bumps on penis, vulva, thighs, buttocks, in vagina, cervix
- turns in to blisters
- blisters become full of puss and burst (immune response) - most contagious, spread of viral particles
- psychological aspect worse than physical aspect

• in others, poor results: intolerance / side effects, prior ineffective antiretroviral therapy and infection with a drug-resistant strain of HIV

• Symptoms:
- Stage 1 (first few weeks): chancre sore on internal or external genitals, mouth, rectum
- Stage 2 (1-6 months): chancres disappear, general malady, rash. Goes dormant for 1-40 years, no longer infectious
- Stage 3: external/internal ulcers, bacteria very active in blood vessels, CNS, heart, and bons, brain attacked
