OJO: Notice the "personal a" because you are doing a verb (conoce) to a person (una chica).

Definition

(She) does exercise for an hour.


OJO: Use "por" because when talking about doing something "for" an amount of time.

OJO: "Hace" means "does" or "makes."

SPELLING: Notice "ejercicio."

La mamá las oye.
Definition

The mom hears them.

 

OJO: Notice accent on "mamá."

OJO: The mom is doing the hearing. "Oye" means "she/he/it hears" as a description or "Hear!" (~Hey!) as a command.

OJO: FYI "Oye" comes from oír, to hear.

OJO: Notice the "las" before "oye" tells you what (the girls) the mom hears.

OJO: "Unir" means "to unite" and "estar" means "to be." Add "-ado" or "-ido" to show "-ed." Ta-da!: The Unite-eds State-eds!

OJO: Notice "mucho" (much, a lot) vs. "muy" (very).

OJO: "El gusto" is a noun meaning "the pleasure."

COGNADOS: "Gusto," "Me gusta," disgusting, doing something with gusto--all have to do with pleasure, taste, savoring something.

~I like all types of music.

("All types of music are pleasing to me.")

OJO: Compare "Me gusta" (it is pleasing to me) with "Me gustan" (they are pleasing to me).

OJO: "Todos" describes "tipos" so it needs to be plural, too. It's okay here to put "todos" before the noun.

OJO: "Música" needs an accent so you don't pronounce it "mu-SI-ca."

~I wake up at seven. ("I wake myself at the seven.")


OJO: "Me despierto" is something that I do ("despierto"=I wake) to myself ("me").

OJO: You need "las" (or "la una") when telling time.

SPELLING: Compare "siete" and "seis."

OJO: Compare "(los) bailes" ("the dances") with "bailas" (you dance).
