Three-Factor Model Eysneck explanation |
|
Definition
- Believed we could measure a person’s personality using only these three factors - Clustered a series of statements that measure how extravert you are, neurotic or psychoticism
- Three dimensions where not connected, but each had a correlation to type of brain tissue - Believed that people who were introverts have got a cortex that is more easily aroused and more frequent to fire, therefore do not want to get too much stimulation which could cause over-stimulation - Extroverts are less easily aroused cortex, so have to seek stimulation and more arousal activities to get cortex stimulation |

Definition
- Believed that five major factors can provide an effective framework for nomothetic assessment: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism
- Other researchers have argued that simpler clustering's of these may be sufficient, e.g. the Alpha (first three) and Beta (last two) dimensions, or Eysenck’s Extraversion/Neuroticism/Psychoticism dimensions - Up to the individual researcher how many factors they chose to use - Link the factors that link best to your research topic, i.e. what are you trying to find out about someone? Then select traits that relate tot hat particular behavior that you are researching |
