Cassidflies.  4 wings.  Vector for Neorickettsia Risticii (Potomac Horse Fever).

DIPTERA 

Flies.  Have one pair of mesothoracic wings and one pair of meta thoracic halteres. (Hippoboscids are an exception - they have no wings but do have halteres)

Complex metamorphisis.

Mostly oviparous but some ovoviviparous.

3 main groups: Nemotocera, Brachycera, Cyclorrhopha 

Myiasis 

Invasion of living tissue by larvae of music, sarcopphagid, calliphorid, and oestrid cyclorrhophans. 

NEMATOCERA 

Of the order Diptera. 

Includes:

CULICIDAE - mosquitos

SIMULIIDAE - blackflies 

CERATOPOGONIDAE - biting midges

PSYCHODIDAE -  sandflies 

BRACHYCERA 

Of the order diptera.

Includes:

TABANIDAE - deerflies and  horseflies

CYCLORRHAPHA 

Of the order Diptera.  Contains houseflies, flesh flies and blowflies, botflies, tse tse flies and keds.
