Definition
Class- Chemical Absorbent
Action- Absorbs drugs in GI tract that are taken within one hour
Indications- Drug overdose
Contraindications- caustics, corrosives, petroleum distillates cyanide and/or heavy metals
decreased LOC intact gag reflex
Doses- 1 G/ kg Max dose 50 G
Routes- Oral
Adverse Effects- Nausea, Vomiting

Alteplase (TPA)
Definition
Class- Fibrinolytic
Action- Dissolves blood clots
Indications- Acute coronary syndrome
Contraindications- Prior intracranial bleeds, ischemic stroke within 3 months, active bleeding, suspected aortic dissection.]
Doses- Loading dose of 15 mg, followed by infusion of .75 mg/kg for 30 minutes, then .5mg/kg over 60 minutes.
Route- Slow IV
Adverse Effects- Bleeding, allergic reactions, fever, nausea vomiting

Atenolol
(Tenormin)
Definition
Class- B1 receptor antagonist
Action- It works by slowing down the heart and reducing its workload. Unlike propranolol, atenolol does not pass through the blood–brain barrier thus avoiding various central nervous system side effects.
Indications- Hypertension
Contraindications- If taking other medications for hypertension
Doses- varies
Routes- Oral
Adverse Effects- Provokes type 2 diabetes

Definition
Class- Potent Diuretic
Actions- Inhibits reabsorption of sodium chloride, promotes prompt diuresis.
Indications- CHF, pulmonary edema
Contraindications- Dehydration, pregnancy
Doses- .5-1 mg
Routes- IV, IM
Adverse Effects- few in emergency setting

Definition
Class- Electrolyte
Action- Increases cardiac contractility
Indications- Hyperkalemia, hypocalcemia, abdominal muscle spasms, antidote for mag sulfate.
Contraindications- Pts recieving digitalis
Doses- 2-4 mg/kg of a 10% percent solution.

Definition
Class- Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor
Actions- Peripheral smooth muscle relaxant thus lowering BP
Indications- Hypertension, CHF
Contraindications- Pregnancy, angioedema, known hypersensitivity, hypotension.
Doses- 12.5-25 mg
Route- Sublingual
Adverse Effects- Cough, headache, dizziness, syncope.

Class- Mineral Supplement
Action- antidote for mag sulfate (Epsom salt) overdose. Used for hypocalcemia.
