Often affects the joints on only one side of the body at first. nonsystemic

*Dx. Stiffness on arising but usually subsides after 30 minutes

 

*Osteophytes

* Does not cause a general feeling of sickness but does have joint sysmptoms, pain, stiff and functional impairment

Definition: RA is an inflammatory disease of the lining of the joints, results from a fault in the bodys defense or immune system

* Age: usually begins between ages 35-45. Can affect children

 

* acute onset development, fusion of bones

 

*Usually affects the same joint on both sides of the body-symmetrical

 

* Pattern of joint involvement usually begins with smaller joints. Hands, writs and feet. Later moving inot larger joints
