Similarly, Berkley paid for the militia he needed to defend the Ohio Company' stake out West by over-taxing people who would never see the benefit- the non-shareholding, middle class of VA. |

With the decisive win at the Battle of Saratoga, the U.S. gains France as an alliance, turning the war into a world war, and hurting Great Britain's chances of winning. |

In 1800, the D-R's finally got their shot, when DR Thomas Jefferson was elected over John Adams (Fed). Jay's treaty is one of the last examples of the federalist party coming out on top. After the election of 1800, six years post-treaty- it was a steady descent into non-existence. |
