- People gather between the bank and the post office for the Lottery.
- Starts at 10:00 in the morning.
- The children gathered first, the boys playing and the girls talking among themselves
- Then the men began to gather, followed by the women.

- The Postmaster came in carrying the black box and a three legged stool.
- Everyone distanced themselves from the box.
- Two men came and held the box steady while the names inside were stirred around.
- The box was put into use before Old Man Warner was born.
