- When the next world war was begining, a plane was shot down over the ocean and crashed in the jungle of a deserted island.
- Piggy and Ralph find a conch shell, and Piggy gets Ralph to blow through it so the other boys from the plane wreckage will come to where they are.
- The oldest of all the survivors are 12 and the youngest are 6.
- All of the boys vote for a leader and Ralph wins.

- The parachuter leaves shadows on the beach, and the wind makes it look like his head is moving up and down.

- Ralph is angry that the boys have become undisciplined and play all the time.
- Ralph goes on his first hunt and throws his spear and hits a boar in the snout.

- Ralph, Jack, and Rodger find the monster and run down the mountain to warn the others.

- The other boys don't want to vote him out, so Jack leaves and says that anyone who wants can join him.
- Piggy tells Ralph they should build a new signal fire on the beach so they have a better chance of being saved.

Golding Chapter Nine The Two Groups
- Jack assembles his own group, who kills a pig and leaves its head on a sharpened stick as an offering to the beast.
- Simon finds the pigs head in the jungle and sits and stares at it.
- The pig's head talks to Simon in the voice of the Lord of the Flies and promises that he will never escape the beast and to have some fun with Simon.
