Black regiment, practiced very good military training, dediacated, led an attack of fort wagner in Charleston harbor in july 1863, one soldier promised he'd stay by captain until he died
**first black regiment to have the oppertunity to fight equal to white soldiers against the enemy, the soldiers had to die to be recognized as men |

black soldiers were sometimes attacked by northern mobs, did lots of heavy labor, were paid $10 (whites $13) and given less than $3 for clothing (whites $3.50)
**Many refused to accept any pay, many regiments and officers, congress eventually did something about it, proved manhood to many,more respect for black soldiers, German & Irish were getting mad becuase they're getting drafted to fight in war on slavery because blacks are free, upset-kill many blacks |
