Insertion: Inferior to lesser to lesser trocanter

Action: Addcts, flexs, and medially roates thigh 

Origin: Illiac crest and illiac spine

Insertion: Illiotibial tract

Action: Flexes, abducts and medially rotates thigh; steadies trunk 

Origin: Anterior superior illiac spine

Insertion: Via aponeurosis medial aspect of proximal tibia

Action: flexes, abducts, and laterally rotates thigh 

Origin: body of the pubis, lateral to symphasis

Insertion: Mid femor

Action: adducts and flexes the thigh, and helps latterally rotate the hip joint 

Origin: pubic symphasis, pubis

Insertion: Medial surface of tibial shaft

Action: flexes the knee, adducts the thigh 

Origin: Long head: Ischial tuberosity

           Short head: lateral supracondylar ridge of femor

Insertion: fibular head

Action: flexes knee, and also rotates the tibia laterally; long head also extends the hip joint 

Origin: posterior portion of the ischial tuberosity

action: extends the thigh and flexes the knee

action: dorsiflexor of ankle and invertor of foot

Insertion: Eventually unites with the gastronemius aponerosis to for the Achilles tendon, inserting on the middle 1/3 of the posterior calcaneal surface

Action: powerful plantar flexor of ankle 

Origin: medial head: medial femoral condyle

insertion: the two heads unite into a proad aponeirosis which eventually unites with the deep tendon of the soleus to for the Achilles tendon, inserting on the middle 1/3 of the calcaneal surface

action: powerfu plantar flexor of the ankle 

origin: inferior portion of intertrochanteric line

insertion: medial base and border of patella

action: extends the knee
