Definition
has DNA from two different genomes(genetically modified organisms) example: when a bone marrow is given to someone with leukimia, the reciepient recieves the donor's DNA. |

What are the three structural differencesbetween DNA and RNA? |
|
Definition
1. Sugar in RNA cantains an extra hydroxyl group called ribose. 2. DNA has a nucleotide base thymine and RNA has the base Uracil. 3. RNA is single stranded |

Term
Outline the steps of Transcription |
|
Definition
Initiation: RNA polymerase binds to the sense strand on the DNA, this opens the double helix. Binds to a specific site on the DNA in front of the gene that is to be transcribed Elongation: RNA polymerase starts building the single stranded mRNA. The mRNA is complementary to DNA template. Termination: RNA polymerase reaches the end of the gene and recognizes this because of a termination sequence which gives the stop signal. mRNA detaches from DNA strand. |

Outline the steps of Translation |
|
Definition
Initiation: Ribosome binds to mRNA. The ribosome moves along the the mRNA reading the codons. Translation begins when the ribosome reaches the start codon. Elongation: tRNA is responsible fro carrying the amino acids, one at a time. The tRNA carries methionine into the P site. second tRNA enters the A site. A peptide bond forms between methionine and the second amino acid. Ribosome moves over one codon and the next tRNA beings the next amino aacid into the A site. etc. |
