Alcohol- relax, slows behavior, slows inhibitions
Sedative- Perscription drugs, anxiety disorders, Big withdrawls
Opioids- narcotics, morphine, heroine,effects are uforia, pain relief and "chasing the dragon" =can't get back to first high feeling, use more and more

what are stimulants?

substances that activate nervous system

Name stimulants and there effects:
Definition
Caffeine- increases alertness, HR, and cause insomnia, nervousness, and no coordination. Withdrawl effects and increased anxiety
Nicotine- Increases HR, respiration, arosal (wake up). Increases lung disease, heart disease, cancer, cataracts. Has withdrawl
Cocaine- from cocoa plant, increases HR, has a rush of uforia, makes dopamine and serotonin

create distorted perceptions of reality
~Not neccesarily to make you hallucinonate
Can be mild or extreme
Includes: Marijuna
LSD and Psilocybin

from canabis plant.
active ingredient is THC; endocannabinoids treat nausea and pain (natural marijuna-like substances being produced in body)
Distorts reality
food becomes more desirable
Time slows down
Not physiologically addicted, however habitual use is psychologically addictive
Respiratory illness, short term memory decreases

Makes you see colors
*Synesthesia: Blending of senses-Hear something and see colors
Horrible experiences and life changing ones
*Increases dopamin and seratonine NT= better mood

similar to LSB, but not as intense
Dosage dependent intensity
Religous experiences- long periods of time
Can alter normal personalities forever

what are Amphetamines?
Definition
Amphetamines- make HR increase. Meth, dexatrine, amphatamine sulfate (speed). These are perscribed a lot, causeing lots of addictions. They cause extra alertness= very addictive. Cause depression, paranoia, lack of ambition, leads to a state of mind= psychosis-similar to schizophrenia

Ecstacy: Social love drug-makes you feel more connected. Falls in between a stimulant and hallucinogen. Too much= depression, slow reaction time to cognitive tasks (mental deficits/in a daze ) and greater impulsivity
