Steps for Dimensional Analysis:
|
|
Definition
Steps for Dimensional Analysis
1. Identify the desired unit.
2. Identigy the equivalent needed.
3. Write the equivalent in fraction format, keepping the desired unit in the numerator. This is written first.
4. Label all factors in thhe equation, label what you desire x (unit desired).
5. Identify unwanted or undesired units and cancel them. Reduce to lowest terms if possible.
6. If all the labels except the answer label are not eliminated, recheck the equation.
7. Perform the mathematical process indicated. |

Clark's Rule: a method of determining the correct drug dosage for a child based on the known adult dose (assumes that the adult dose is based on a 150lb person)
child's dose=
(weight of child in lb) / (150 lb) x average adult dose |
|
|
Term
|
Definition
a method of determining a pediatric ddrug dose for a child younger than 1 year of age, based on the child's age and the usual dose. (assumes that an adult dose would be appropraite for a 12.5 year old child)
child's dose (age 1y) =
(weight of child(mo) / 150lb) x average adult dose |
|
|
Term
|
Definition
a method for determining pediatric drug dose based on the child's age and the usual adult dose:

PO tablets |
|
Definition
Rounding Rules
PO tablets: you could have 1.5 tablets (1 1/2) tabs. Think about it - you can break a tablet easy in half. Most MD orders in reality and on tests give you an easy amount to give 1, 1.5, or 2 tabs. (if you calculated 1.75 tabs it would make me wonder about the order or about the calc. itself. |
