Glucose tolerance test
Taken by pregnant women if the GLT indicates that gestational diabetes might be present.
Three days of unrestricted diet followed by an overnight fast. Fasting level drawn; 100g glucose load given, and levels are drawn at 1, 2, and 3 hours. 2 abnormal readings=gestational diabetes
Norms: Fasting 105; One hr 190; Two hour 165; Three hour 145 |

Montevideo units
Montevideo units (MVUs) refer to the strength of contractions in mm of mercury multiplied by the frequency per 10 minutes as measured by intrauterine pressure transducer.
The uterine contraction pattern must repeat every 2-3 minutes.
The uterine contractile force produced must exceed 200 MVUs/10 min for active labor to be considered adequate. For example, 3 contractions in 10 minutes that each reach a peak of 60 mm Hg are 60 X 3 = 180 MVUs. |

Late decelerations are transitory decreases in heart rate caused by uteroplacental insufficiency, a compromised blood flow to the baby that does not deliver the amount of oxygen needed to withstand the stress of labor.
The late deceleration begins after the onset of the peak or middle of the contraction and ends after the contraction.
A late deceleration begins during or after a contraction and has not recovered by the time that the contraction has ended. A late deceleration indicates decreased blood flow during uterine contraction. Note: Persistent late decelerations are ominous, especially if the decelerations are associated with loss of short-term variability. |

Oxytocin Challenge test. Usually see "OCT+"
The Oxytocin Challenge Test (OCT) or stress test is done at near full term pregnancy to determine how your baby deals with the stress of contractions. Sometimes this is done to determine the health of your baby and others to determine if your baby can handle labor.
The test returns positive if there are noticeable decelerations of the heart rate during over half of the contractions. |
