What did Mastro find wehn looking at news stories (in reference to race) |
|
Definition
he found that when we look at stories that aren't crime related, that there is equal representation between blacks and whites. However, when it comes to crime, he found that blacks were represented 2x more than whites. African Americans are more likely to be portrayed without a name, in handcuffs and likely to have their criminal record reported, and to be seen as perpetrators of crime. When it comes to crime, caucasians are underrepresented. |

|
Definition
They are more likely to be portrayed as perpetrators of crime. They are likely to have their criminal record reported (especially if their victims were white) The more they report on criminal records of other races, the more our view of that race is affected. |
