Definition
Anesthetizes: Inferior alveolar nerve, mental incisive nerve, mandibular teeth to midline, body of mandible, facial soft tissue, lower lip.
Landmarks: Coronoid Notch; occlusal plane, pterygomandibular triangle, pterygomandibular raphe.
Needle Length: Long.
Penetration: Must contact bone
Amount of Anesthetic: 1/2 to 1 full carpule.

Definition
Anesthetizes: Buccal nerve, soft tissue bucall to the mandibular molars.
Landmarks: Mandibular molars, retromolar pad, vestibule.
Needle Length: Long.
Penetration: Contact bone.
Amount of Anesthetic: 1/8 carpule.

Definition
Anesthetizes: Terminal branches of the inferior alveolar nerve, facial soft tissue from second premolar anterior to midline of lower lip.
Target: Mental foramen.
Landmarks: Mandibular premolars, mental foramen.
Needle Length: Long.
Penetration: 1/4 length of needle.
Amount of Anesthetic: 1/3 carpule.

Definition
Target: Center of Interdental Papilla.
Anesthetizes: Bone, soft tissue, root structure in area of injection.
Amount of Anesthetic: 2-3 drops.

Anesthetizes: Bone, soft tissue, apical and pulpal tissues in the area of the injection.

Posterior Superior Alveolar Nerve Block (PSA) (Maxillary)
Definition
Anesthetizes: posterior superior alveolar nerve, pulp of 3rd maxillary molar, 2nd molar, distal and palatal roots of first molar, osseous tissue, buccal gingiva, PDL.
Target: Apex of 3rd molar.
Landmarks: Maxillary tuberosity, Mucobuccal fold.
Needle Length: short or long.
Penetration: 1/3 length of long needle, 1/2 of short needle.
Amount of Anesthetic: 1/2 - 2/3 carpule.

Middle Superior Alveolar Nerve Block (MSA) (Maxillary)
Definition
Anesthetizes: Middle superior alveolar nerve, pulp of maxillary 1st and 2nd premolars, mesiobuccal root of first molar, osseous tissue, buccal gingiva, PDL.
Target: Apex of 2nd premolar.
Landmarks: Mucobuccal fold, 2nd premolar.
Needle Length: Short.
Penetration: 1/2 length of short needle.
Amount of Anesthetic: 1/2 - 2/3 carpule.

Anterior Superior Alveolar Nerve Block (ASA)(Maxillary)
Definition
Anesthetizes: Anterior superior alveolar nerve, pulp of maxillary central, lateral, canine, facial periodontal tissue, osseous tissue.
Target: Apex of canine.
Landmarks: Mucobuccal fold, canine eminence, fossa just mesial to canine.
Needle Length: Short.
Penetration: 1/2 length of short needle.
Amount of Anesthetic 1/3 - 1/2 carpule.

Greater Palatine Nerve Block (GP) (Maxillary)
Definition
Anesthetizes: Hard palate, overlying soft tissue from 3rd molar to 1st premolar.
Target: Bevel of needle anterior to greater palatine foramen.
Landmarks: Greater palatine foramen, fossa/2nd molar palatal root, tissue indentation from pressure anesthesia.
Needle length: short.
Penetration: Contact palatal bone.
Amount of Anesthetic: 2 - 3 drops/ 1/4 carpule (tissue will blanch).

Nasopalatine Nerve Block (NP) (Maxillary)
Definition
Anesthetizes: hard palate, overlying soft tissue canine to canine.
Target: Over and mesial or distal incisive papilla near incisive foramen.
Landmarks: Incisive papilla, central incisors.
Needle length: short.
Penetration: contact palatal bone.
Amount of Anesthetic: 2 - 3 drops/ 8 carpule (tissue will blanch).

Target: Muccobuccal fold closest to tooth to be anesthetized.
Landmarks: Apex of tooth.
