·      The term, disneyfication, has come to describe how the real world is becoming more and more like a theme park – like Disneyland. Where Disneyland is a world that is safe and entertaining, where there are no unpleasant surprises, where nothing has ever gone wrong and where everything is sanitised.

·       ‘To Disneyfy means to translate or transform an object into something superficial and even simplistic.’

·       ‘When we live in a world where there is more and more information and less and less meaning’

• Disneyfication is generally associated with the negative aspects of the trivialization and sanitization of information: historically and culturally
• ‘has come to be seen as a distinctive approach to literature and history that entails a crude simplification that also cleanses the object being Disneyfied of unpleasantness.’

Disneyization, closely related to Disneyfication, and used by some authors as the same term, deals more in the overall influence on society and not mainly history and culture.

1.       the growing importance of the knowledge society/economy;

2.       the development of new trade agreements which cover trade in education services;

3.       the innovations related to ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies); and

These key elements are important in regards to the quality, access, diversity and funding in higher education.
