The name of LI 6, Pianli (veering passage) might tip you off.  It is the luo connecting point of the Large Intestine meridian, connecting it with its internally/externally paired organ, the Lung channel of hand taiyin.

 

NOTE: pay attention to the course of the Luo channels! In this instance, this channel ascends and goes to the ears and teeth, thus explaining a lot of otherwise unclear signs and symptoms!!!!

*Remember that Xi-Cleft points moderate pain and acute conditions.  Also, on the yin meridians, they are useful for disorders of blood..... since this is a yang meridian, this point does not have an effect on blood!
