S/S
-Mild: umbles, confusion, mild shivering, P/C/C, elevated HR/RR
-Moderate: all S/S increase
-Severe: LOR to U, shivering stops, muscles becomes rigid, cyanotic skin, HR/RR decrease and can appear to have stopped.
Treatment:
-Mild to Moderate: insulate the patient, change base layers for dryness, light excercise, warm food/liquids, hypo-wrap
-Severe: perform rescue breathing, insulated water bottles (hot), no CPR
Evacuation:
-Evacuate all severely hypothermic patients and patients who have difficulty rewarming |

Definition
-When a patient is in a body of water and panicking (drowning)
Treatment:
-Treat for hypothermia
-Keep patient lying down
Evacuation:
-Patient with LOR at U or with respiratory difficulty
Prevention:
-Learn people's swimming abilities
-Cold water can impair swimming
-Never swim alone, when possible whre a PFD
-Do not cross high flowing river without proper training and technique.

Responsive Patient:

3. If the patient can speak, assume their airway is unobstructed.
Unresponsive Patient
1. Look, listen and feel for signs of breathing.
2. If air is moving in and out normally assume the airway is unobstructed.
3. If the airway is obstructed treat appropriatley. |
