a father of Christian Democracy.

a founders of the Italian Populist Party (1919). This party was a powerful force in Italian politics between 1919 and 1922. The rise of the Populists and the Socialists contributed to a loss of support for the Italian Liberal Party. Sturzo is exiled in 1924 lacking the support of his party and the pope.
