Who discovered that
DNA material was different from
protein and by which means? |
|
Definition
Friedrich Miescher discovered by removing material from the nuceli of puss cells that it contained high levels of phosphorus and no sulphur. This made it very different from protein. |

Who proposed DNA as the hereditary material in the Central Dogma and what evidence did they have to back this up? |
|
Definition
In 1944, Avery and co took DNA from a dead S strain and injected it into an R strain, which then began to transform. They discovvered that the enzyme that degrades RNA and protein was not blocking the reaction, but the enzyme that degrades DNA was. They concluded that the physical and chemical properties of the transforming substance were similar to that of DNA. From this evidence they proposed that DNA was the hereditary material. |

In which way do RNA Viruse's
conform to the Central Dogma? |
|
Definition
RNA uses reverse transcriptase
to go back to DNA, then injects virus DNA into the host cell, then uses transcription to go back to RNA and then translation to be made into protein.
