• motor to skeletal muscles

General Sensory Afferent

  (GSA)

• Cell body in DRG
• sensory from the skin 
• always travel with GVE 

General Visceral Efferent

(GVE)

• cell bodies in lateral horn
• autonomics (sympathetic and parasympathetic)
• always travel with GSA

General Visceral Afferent

(GVA)

• cell bodies in DRG
• sensory from glands and organs

• GVE
• cell bodies in lateral horn of T1-L2,3
• fight of flight response
• short preganglionic, long post ganglionic

Postganglionic Sympathetic

GVE

• cell bodies in 2 locations: prevertebral and paravertebral ganglia

• in plexuses that surround origins of the main branches of the abdominal aorta
• include celiac ganglion, superior messenteric, inferior messentaric and aorticornial ganglion

• sympathetic chain ganglia on each side of the vertebral column

• off of ventral horn 
• motor only

• off of dorsal horn
• has a dorsal root ganglion
• sensory nerves only

• mixed motor and sensory
• Dorsal rami innervate deep back muscles

• enter into sympathtic chain ganglia
• only from T1-L2

• exit the sympathetic chain ganglion
• located at all levels

• synapse in chain ganglia at same level using white and grey rami communicantes at same level
• synapse in chain ganglia above T1 using white rami at same level and grey at above level
• synapse in chain ganglia below L2 using white rami at same level and grey at level below
• synapse in prevertebral ganglia using splanchnic nerves

• GVE
• Craniosacral
• cell bodies in nuclei of cranial nerves III, VII, IX and X also in the spinal cord at level S2-S4 to form pelvic splanchnic nerves
• rest and digest
• long preganglionic, short postganglionic

• cell bodies in peripheral ganglia close to the viscera they innervate

• Cilliary Ganglion
• Pterygopalatine Ganglion
• Otic Ganglion
• Submandibular Ganglion

• Cranial Nerve X (CN X)
• parasympathetic innervation to viscera
