Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Formed in 1988 to formed to keep “the internet secure, stable and interoperable” by presenting guidelines for the creation of unique identifiers. The accreditation organization that licenses registrars who sell the domain names.

Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. One of the oldest Internet policy coordinators (1970’s). Operated by ICANN and is responsible in maintaining three main areas:

1. Domain Names,
2. Number Resources and
3. Protocol Assignments.

Internet Society. Established in 1992 to promote and educate the world population in the use and development of the Internet.

Internet Engineering Task Force- "make the Internet work better by producing high quality, relevant technical documents that influence the way people design, use and manage the Internet”. Responsible for setting the standards that will run the Internet and set protocol parameters.

Request for Comments: official publication branch of the IETF. RFC is submitted as ASCII and can range anywhere from computer networking, procedures, program notes, opinions, meeting minutes. Each published RFC document is assigned a unique serial number that can never be altered, instead if amendments are needed a new RFC is written and placed in line.
