15/15 rule – give 15 g of a fast acting concentrated source of carbohydrate such as:

•6 to 10 life savers or other hard candies

•2 to 3 teaspoons of sugar or honey

•Then retest the glucose in 15 min., retreat as needed.

How about 1mg of Glucagon SQ or IM. Glucagon is sold by Rx and should be part of the emergency supplies kept by diabetic clients who require insulin.
