– High WBC counts, no pus formation, no effective wound healing

– Newborns have delayed umbilical cord separation

– No classical clinical signs during severe infection (e.g. no LN

swelling, or inflammation cardinals)

– Chronic granulomatous disease

– Most are X-linked and some are autosomal recessive

– Estimated prevalence at 1:200,000

– Manifested by age 2

– Defect in respiratory burst (i.e. lack of NADPH oxidase or similar

enzymes) affects efficient phagocytic killing

– Susceptible to low virulence bacteria

– Patients carry widespread
